Health Clinics

Preventive Medicine
We are very keen that all patients take advantage of the various disease prevention and monitoring facilities available.

The following are available to patients by appointment (but all services are available to patients at their convenience at other surgery times).

Male and Female Health Checks

The Health Care Assistant carries out these simple health checks. Patients between the ages of 15 and 74 are offered an appointment every 3 years.  The check includes testing for high blood pressure, measuring height and weight and checking urine samples. Advice about smoking, diet and immunisation is also available.

Cervical Cytology

Women are recommended to have regular cervical smears to check that the neck of the womb (cervix) is healthy and there are no signs of changes that could develop into cancer. Cervical smears are done every three years for ladies between the ages of 25 and 50 and then every five years up to the age of 65 years.

Family Planning

Contraceptive advice and prescribing of the oral contraceptive pill is offered in any surgery consultation, however, alternative methods such as the insertion of coils (IUCD) are available at the Family Planning Clinic, at Nantwich Health Centre, Beam Street (tel. 610554) Thursdays between 6.30pm and 8.15pm.

Breast Screening

Breast Screening by mammography is offered to all women aged 50 to 70 every three years and is carried out in a special unit at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. Mammography is an X-ray examination of the breasts and can help find small treatable changes in the breast before there are any signs of cancer. If you have any questions about the service, please ask the doctor or nurse.
