NHS App

Getting Started

The NHS App gives you a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services. Download the NHS App on your smartphone or tablet via the Google play / App store. You can also access the same services in a web browser by logging in through the NHS website.

You must be aged 13 or over to use the NHS App.

View Messages about your care

Turning on your notifications on your NHS app is crucial to ensure you do not miss out on hospital appointments, screening invitations, test results and other important information via the NHS App.

NHS services are increasingly send messages to users via the App – it is a convenient and secure way to get appointment reminders and other messages that you might usually get a different way – for example, through text messages or letters.

If you do not turn on notifications, you may not receive some of these messages.

How to manage your notification preferences

  1. Log in to the NHS App.
  2. Select the Account icon in the top corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Manage notifications.
  5. Follow the link to your device settings.
  6. The toggle is green when notifications are on.

Turning your notifications on or off may take up to 24 hours to take effect.

If you use the app on multiple devices, you’ll need to allow notifications on each device.

Order your Repeat Medications

The NHS App is the quickest and easiest way to order a repeat prescription – and it puts you in better control of your own health.

You can use the App to order your medication at a time that’s convenient for you, and select which pharmacy you would like your medication to be sent to each time you order.

If you collect your prescriptions from the Surgery then we will send a message directly to the App when your prescription items are ready to collect. Therefore it is important that you turn on your notifications on the App so you do not miss these messages.

By ordering repeat prescriptions yourself through the NHS App, you’ll also help the NHS to reduce unnecessary medicine waste and save money, as you can just order what you need, when you need it.

See your GP Health Record

This is a record of your personal health information. It may include details about your health conditions and treatments youhave had. Here you will see your GP health record including: Allergies, Medicines, Immunisations, Test Results, Consultations and Documents.

Screening Invitations

More and more patients will be receiving digital screening invitations via the App. Cervical screening has now gone live with sending invitations directly to the App. It is important to have your notifications turned on to ensure that you receive this messages.

Hospital Referrals and Appointments

If you have been referred to the hospital, you may also be able to see your referral and any forthcoming appointment in the NHS App. However please note this does depend on the Specialty you have been referred to.

Proxy Access

You can request to act as a proxy for children, relatives or someone you care for so you can access health services on their behalf. Please contact the Surgery for more information.
